4 Common Late-Season Air Conditioner Repairs

Summer is over and fall is upon us. Even though many areas will soon be turning on their heaters, here in Southern California we still need our air conditioners for a while longer. That means addressing AC repair needs, even now.

If you suspect that your air conditioner is having problems with operation, go ahead and call us to schedule an AC repair in Santa Clarita. We can check out your air conditioner from top to bottom and fix anything that is a cause for concern. You can keep reading to learn more about some of the more common air conditioning repair needs we see at this time of the year.

Refrigerant Line Issues

There are a variety of things that could go wrong with your refrigerant lines requiring an appointment for air conditioning repair. One common problem is a refrigerant leak. You may suddenly notice that your air conditioner is not cooling as well as it once did.

Or, maybe you hear hissing in bubbling sounds where the refrigerant is leaking out of the lines. When this happens, we need to repair the refrigerant lines and then recharge your refrigerant. Addressing a leak can save you money on energy costs in addition to helping your AC operate at a higher level.

Aside from leaks, it’s also possible for the coils to freeze. While leaks can go hand-in-hand with frozen coils, ice can develop even when there is not a refrigerant leak. If you have icy coils, they need to thaw out and then our team needs to troubleshoot and figure out what caused the problem so we can prevent ice from developing again and again.

Broken Capacitor

We also see broken capacitors at this time of the year. The capacitor is a small component in your outdoor AC unit. It charges up and stores electricity to provide a little extra power boost at the beginning of each cooling cycle.

As time passes, this capacitor can wear down and either not hold its charge as well or struggle to help your AC start up. When this happens, we need to replace the capacitor with a new one or your air conditioner may stop working completely. A humming sound from the outdoor unit is an early sign that your capacitor is struggling to work the way it should.

Blower Motor Problems

Just like the capacitor, your blower motor can wear out and require a little TLC. However, in the case of a blower motor, we can make repairs if an issue is caught early. Oftentimes, we simply need to clean out the blower motor and relubricate the bearings so they are not grinding together. If we do need to make any replacements to the individual components that make up your blower motor, we will do that.

Lack of Airflow

If you’re experiencing a lack of airflow coming out of your vents, it is possible that there is a blockage somewhere in the system. Perhaps something is wrong with your ductwork that is preventing airflow from reaching your home. But it is more likely that the air filter located behind the intake grate is dirty and preventing airflow into the system, thus limiting the amount of airflow that can blow out into your home.

JMS Air Conditioning and Heating has your back. Call us today to schedule an appointment for an AC repair in Santa Clarita, CA!
