Is it Easy or Hard to Switch to a Ductless Unit?

Switching to a ductless mini split HVAC system is an excellent idea. When you think about switching from a central air conditioner with attached ductwork, it may seem like an overwhelming project. Worry not – that is what our team is here for!

We make it easy to switch to ductless cooling in Los Angeles. You can keep reading to learn more about what happens when we install a ductless mini split system in your home. Then you can decide if making the switch is the right decision for your family.

Removing Your Old Unit(s)

First, we have to completely remove your existing system. This means taking out the central indoor and outdoor units. If you want, you can repurpose the space where it was located. Keep in mind that if you currently have both a central air conditioner and a central heater, we will have to remove both before installing your ductless mini split system, including the outdoor units.

If your home is set up for ducted heating and cooling, your ductwork will remain in place in case you ever wish to switch to a ducted system someday. Once the old equipment has been removed, we are ready to move forward with installing your ductless model.

Installation

Our first step is to plan out the placement of your individual units. Usually, each room gets its own mini split. However, if you have a couple of rooms that are attached together like a dining room and kitchen or kitchen and living room, that space may have a single unit.

Similar to larger central units, ductless mini splits come in different sizes so we can customize the unit for each room of your home. Our next step is to run the connecting electrical lines and refrigerant lines. Although there is not a central indoor unit, there is a central outdoor unit where all of the various lines connect.

Once the outdoor unit is installed and connected, we can begin testing each of the individual units to make sure they are working correctly. We will go over with you how to operate each individual unit so you understand how to optimize settings.

Care Tips

Our last step is to review care tips with you so you understand how to give your ductless mini split system the best chance at a long lifespan. These care tips will include how to clean out the filters on each individual unit, how to rinse out the condensate drain lines, and how to care for the outdoor unit. We can also review some of the signs that can indicate ductless mini split problems so that if you notice any of them, you can give us a call right away to schedule service.
